PROJECT Development

The Breather

Our Chemical Product is called "The Breather", a breathanalyser that detects dangerous alcohol level which can prevent drink driving which happens often and most time, it is always fatal when drink-driving accidents occur. The Breather's function is to detect the dangerous alcohol level and set off an alarm system.

Planning Process

The picture below is our planning process in detail.

The planning process begins with our design sketches and deciding its functions with regards to the problem. We went through and eliminated non-feasible ideas and were able to come up with a water tank system which opens in response to the alcohol sensor. In addition, we also decided to add an LED and alarm sound to better notify and wake the driver up in case he is drunk.

Roles

I took in charge as the CSO, looking over any safety concerns we may have for each and every activity.

Task Allocation

For the task allocation, we were very specific in our work as well as helping out one another. I took in charge of the coding and circuit interconnection as I felt very encouraged to work on Arduino. From the first semester, I had quite of a struggle with Arduino programming so I decided that it was the time for me to bring myself a challenge and make better work out of myself!

Project Execution & Building Process

Our project was a long process, stemming up to three weeks.

3D Printing (IC: Junheng & Andrew)

Junheng is in charge of laser-cutting extra parts as well as 3D-printing the tank.

Andrew is in charge of the designing and 3D-printing of the tank door and sensor holder.

Problems & Solutions

For Arduino programming, it was challenging to find a good reference to use so that our circuit could respond to the alcohol sensor. I took reference of an ultrasound sensor found on TinkerCAD and made use of referring to its circuit. Therefore, I was finally able to connect all three functions to the circuit.

The tank was inconsistent and was poorly printed into a weak structure so we had to readjust the infill density as well as other factors to make a much better structure.
